review of Don Juan
With
a name like Don Juan, one
wonders who is this man who will
be singing shortly. The
audience, women mostly, emanate
a mixture of sexual energy as
the expectation grows.
The
MC announces Don Juan, and a
handsome, elegant man walks into
the stage. He sits alone on a
tall stool and with his Spanish
accent, greets the crowd.
Amongst cheers from
people who seem to have known
him always, Don Juan begins his
repertoire of songs from all
over the world.
His
voice carries so much feeling
within it that it doesn’t
surprise me when I see women
with tears in their eyes. I look
further, and adoring faces seem
lost in another world,
captivated by his baritone
voice, his guitar playing and
his dreamy eyes.
Warned
in advance, Don Juan knows that
there is a birthday lady in the
audience. To my surprise,
suddenly he unplugs his guitar,
and walks towards her. The crowd
is silent, as Don Juan sings
Happy Birthday to this woman
whom I fear will faint any time.
The
crowd cheers madly, as Don Juan
returns to the stage and smiles.
When he gets to the United
States, during his world tour on
stage, I see people dancing,
singing along, and tapping their
feet to the beat of Don Juan.
There is a song for everyone it
seems.
Suddenly,
the concert is over, and I
wonder where the time went.
People yell, “More,
more,” and Don Juan returns to
the stage for one last song. I
look around, and I wonder how
many women would want to take
him home. The answer comes to
me, when I see them all in line,
waiting to buy his new CD,
entitled Para ti (For
you), and specially when I watch
them fight for his attention,
and his autograph. Men, non-chalantly,
also ask for his autograph,
“for my daughter,” they
explain.
Don
Juan…romantic, charming,
elegant and handsome, a name
that makes complete sense, a
name that fit this talented man,
and an all around entertainer,
that will take the country by a
storm.
